A Christmas Story Experience - Saturday, December 6, 2008
Escorted by Scott and Deb Barkhurst

Do your Christmas traditions include watching the 1983 movie, A Christmas Story?  This classic holiday comedy tells the tale of Ralphie growing up in the 1940s. The only thing Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun, but his mother, his teacher, and even Santa are convinced he'll "shoot his eye out" with such a present.  If this movie is a hit at your house, then relive the past as we travel to Cleveland for our second annual A Christmas Story Experience.  Filmed in Cleveland, this movie is arguably one of America’s favorite holiday films.  Our first stop will be a tour of the original house, now restored to its movie splendor.  Directly across the street from the house is the official A Christmas Story House Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as rare behind-the-scenes photos and a gift shop where you can purchase your very own leg lamp.  Our next stop will be at the Cleveland Playhouse for an entertaining stage production of the movie.  After the show we will go to the C&Y Chinese restaurant, the official restaurant of A Christmas Story, and the location of the movie filming.  Here we will enjoy a 5 course family style dinner featuring Chinese turkey while being serenaded with “Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra”. Prove you know your A Christmas Story trivia and be ready to square off against the others on the bus as we make our way home that evening.  This trip is fun for all ages and a great way to start your holiday season.  Our trip includes: entrance and private tour of the official A Christmas Story home, time to visit the museum and gift shop, a ticket to the live performance, dinner, motorcoach transportation, all tips, and a Travels and Journeys escort.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad  - Saturday, October 18, 2008
Escorted by Scott and Deb Barkhurst

All aboard for fun as we experience the adventure and nostalgia of riding the train on the most scenic excursion railway in Ohio.  This fun day trip starts in the morning when we board the motorcoach and make our way to the Cleveland Westside Market.  This is Cleveland’s oldest publicly owned market and a popular shopping spot for both local and out-of-town shoppers.  Here we will have free time to peruse the many food and gift stalls.  Oh, and don’t worry, there will be plenty of cooler space on the motorcoach for any purchases that need to stay cool until we get home.  Next, we will enjoy an early lunch at the Westside Market Cafe.  After lunch we’ll travel to Independence where we’ll hop aboard our train and journey through the heart of beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park along the Cuyahoga River.  We’ll ride comfortably in vintage climate-controlled coaches built in the 40’s and 50’s as we enjoy the scenery of the fall foliage in the park.  Our destination stop will be in Akron at Hale Farm and Village, a living history museum depicting mid-19th century life in the Western Reserve.  There will be plenty of time to view crafts people demonstrating glassblowing, pottery making, spinning, weaving and other trades.  You can also visit the gift shop and the restored homes where interpreters in costume discuss and present daily life of mid-1800’s.  After our visit to Hale Farm, it is time to climb back aboard the train and return to the station in Independence where our motorcoach will be waiting for us.  On the way home we will make a stop for dinner on your own.  This special Cleveland/Akron experience will be a memory for young and old alike.  The trip includes lunch, a ticket for the railroad, entrance to Hale Farm, motorcoach transportation from Bucyrus and Mansfield, all tips and taxes, and a Travels and Journeys escort for the day.
